The New being tempered by the Past
IT FITS
Whether a mantel piece is of new wood or repurposed from 100 year old plus reclaimed pieces, it becomes and intricate part of the total scene. In this case, the room was very large and featured reclaimed covering on the floor and ceiling including the post and beams throughout the area. With natural stone covering the fireplace structure, we needed a mantel piece which could dominate the area.
By introducing a 12″ X 12″ hand hewn mantel, we added enough mass into the overall scene for it to dominate and be a featuring aspect. The added “bonus” is the finished coloration of the naturally aged wood. This is complimented nicely by the darker cabinets and trim used throughout the home.
